I, Fin was born in a small village of Sophy in 1978. My father was killed when I was 1 year old so we had to struggle so much to make living even Cambodia had liberated by Vietnamese in 1979. Life in the country-side was in fear all the time because it was always attacted by Khmer Rough every dry season.
The arrival of the UN 1991 made our lives a little bit better because one of my brothers had a job with them so we could move our location to Siem Reap town in 1993. Then, I started to study English and sometimes practise it with UN troops.
Fortunately in 1995, I found a job as a waiter in a restaurant and found a very good man from Brooklyn who sponsor for my education. Michael was in Siem Reap on his holiday, he always go to have meal in the restaurant where I work for. After 3 days, he decided to help me by telling to go back to school.
I finished high school in Siem Reap in 1997. Michael had sent me to Phnom Penh for another 4 years in Computer Science. Once I graduated in IT, I decided to come back to my home town and work in the hotel for a year. At the end of 2001, I decided to step for Tourist industry by joining the tour guide course of Cambodian Ministry of Tourism which I am now officially certificated and licensed. After working for several years in Tourism, I met a lot of people from around the world and had a lot of contacts.
In the first 2 years of guiding, I worked for Hanuman Voyage and Cristinair Tours, and that was the same time I found Gecko Travel, UK which is now changed to All Points East. During 7 years of experience, I worked for several local travel agent such as Vido Tour, House Sun Travel, Grand Booking Group...etc.
In 2005 I was trained and certicated in Phnom Penh as a tour leader by Explore World Wide, UK. 2006, was trained by the same company in Vietnam with 3 Loas guides, 18 Vietnamese guides and 4 Cambodian guides.
From 2006 up to now, I found a lot of works with Canadian active comapny, Butterfield&Robinson which I am the only tour guide for this company in Cambodia.
Currently, I am working as guide in Siem Reap Angkor and tour leader to many places in Cambodia. I am qualified for camping, trekking and biking. Also, I am operating and managing for All Points East. |
